The Rickshaw Run is an insane race (more like a gauntlet) where 100+ teams attempt to drive rickety, three wheeled rickshaws across India in a two week time frame. While the Mongol Rally was more epic in scale, this was by far more dangerous, because driving in India is pure anarchy and utter madness. When I say there are NO rules I mean it - people drive on the opposite side of the roads whenever they feel like it, there are no speed limits outside of the cities, people hitch rides by literally hanging on the sides of buses and trucks for dear life and, for some reason, using headlights while driving at night is optional! Oh, and watch out for the cows, they like to sit in the middle of the roads, and there’s nothing you can do about it except “go around.” To further complicate matters, the rickshaw itself has a top speed of 40 mph (if you’re lucky) and wasn’t made to cover long distances - so the damn thing is constantly overheating, breaking down, and/or running out of gas. All that said, the experience was well worth it. The the other teams were as wild as the roads in India and my teammates, Dae and Travis, were awesome. Below are pictures and the approximate route we took.
